Who Gets Massage and Why?

The short answer is Anyone!

Women, Men, and Children in all stages of life . . Women who are in the Childbearing Year . . . Golfers who want to improve their swing . . . Yoga and pilates practitioners or instructors who need relief from muscle strain from overuse . . . Professionals who sit at a desk and use a computer all day . . . the list is long. Massage is not just a luxury, its actually a treatment that is beneficial to our health. The studies are numerous and have shown that people who get massage enjoy better overall health and far less pain than those who don't.

When someone comes to me for a massage, whereever they are manifesting pain, I investigate the area, and make an assessment of their posture, muscle tone, and general health condition.  With these considerations as starters, I find the offending areas and work from the surrounding aspects toward the pain.  This technique does two important things: 1) The client is encouraged to relax and release any expectation of painful deep pressure; and 2) creates the optimal circulatory response in the muscle group, assisting the final application of therapy to an individual offending muscle or groups of muscles.

As a yoga teacher and practitioner, I have several years of academic Anatomy & Physiology education and training in kinesthetic concepts.  I've studied with many well-known yoga teachers in that community and along with several years of chiropractic clinic experience, I've acquired an understanding of human mechanisms and their inherent abilities and disabilities alike. This experience has expanded my knowledge of the spinal system and its relationship to the spinal tract and muscle connection.

Why I Am a Massage Therapist

I enjoy a sense of my community, and the friendships and cameradie created by working with clients who see me for massage treatment.  If I can make someone achieve relief from pain, or help them become more relaxed, or stimulate the blood flow and enhance the functions of the nervous system through my hands and techniques, I feel a little stronger in my quest for an extended healthier environment.

In fact, I call my massage, "Big Sigh Massage" because I like to hear my clients' sighs of relief and relaxation effects after their session.  This is evidence of my work on a body doing its own work.  We all know that our bodies work hard to keep us going.
